Sophie Herzog is always looking to challenge herself musically as well as intellectually. From this wish, the idea for the concert series "UNGEHÖRT" was born in which the artist unveils a repertoire of pieces that have never been interpreted on her instrument before.

The program, translating to "UNHEARD" in English, features a carefully curated selection of unique transcriptions from Baroque and Classical music masters such as Bach, Mozart, and Händel. It ventures into romanticism with female composer Fanny Hensel, 19th-century impressionism with Satie as well as a modern take on baroque music forms by Shostakovich.

At the shining center of the program lies Beethovens Sonata No. 20 in G Major. Sophie is the first to interpret one of Beethovens piano sonatas in a serious manner on the classical accordion. Her transcription and deliverance has been praised by juries, audiences and experts to be the first to do the composition justice on the instrument.

"My ambition is to highlight the diversity of the classical accordion and present it from a holistic and contemporary perspective. I have little interest in imitating or repeating what others have already accomplished successfully. My priority and fascination lies in the unknown and unexplored. Fortunately, this wonderful instrument is still young enough to find lots of innovative and exciting pathways and modes of expression. That is why I have chosen works that demonstrate the full range of the instrument and have never been played on the accordion."

Sophie Herzog wishes to engage her listeners on a personal level, shattering the formal barriers of classical performance norms. Through dialogue, she shares insights into her discovery of the pieces, their transformation and adaptation to the instrument, thereby bringing the audience closer to the material and herself. Taking them on a profoundly moving journey of heart and mind, this young virtuoso sets her mark on the scene with an opulent and personal performance that resonates long after the last note has faded.

Naturally, the "UNGEHÖRT" program is set anew for every season, remaining a steady yet ever-changing part of Herzog's musical journey.
